24th January 2010
Dagenham RUFC (A) 7 – Colchester RFC 10
Home - U11's
Connor Reed took the ball and left opposition players standing as he dived over to give the Home side the perfect start and a 5-0 lead. Captain Daniel Wren proved how deadly he is with the boot as he hit the conversion with Colchester players bearing down on him for a 7-0 lead.
Colchester are a very well organised side though and put some good phases of play together to score a well worked try as their forwards over powered the D’s with some great driving play. With the conversion missed D’s had a well deserved 7-5 lead.
The second half saw more of the same as Dagenham pressed and were repelled by excellent defence from Colchester and then Dagenham returned the favour with excellent tackles from Demi Ajeigbe, Michael Stayte and James Garwood, but the one mistake the boys made all match would come back to haunt them as a wayward pass from scrum half Mitch Surety wasn’t taken properly by Fly Half Connor Griffiths and a fumble saw Colchester nip in to score and take the lead at 10-7. With the conversion missed the game was up for grabs.
Dagenham had the chance to steal the game at the last after some first class chasing by fullback Wren who tackled two players before just missing the chance to score and from the resulting scrum Colchester cleared their lines to win an excellent match.
Team: Reed, D Wren (Capt.), Mason, Garwood, McKee, Surety, Griffiths, Shaw, Ajeigbe, Stayte, McKewan, G Wren
23rd January 2010
Dagenham RUFC (Development) 0 – Colchester RUFC 10
Home - U11's
The game, again, was a cracker as Dagenham’s new boys, some playing their first ever matches, put up a tremendous effort to hold Colchester to 0-0 at halftime. There was some excellent defending by Bailey McKewan, Regan Mason and Freddie Shaw. But the highlight was the scrum where Bolo Ajeigbe and Oshiel both playing their first games put in enormous effort to hold and then push back the Colchester pack.
The boys had the chance to score but never quite made it across the whitewash and two scores from Colchester settled the game. But the highlight of the game came when the diminutive Seyi Ajeigbe made the tackle of the match as he lined up his opposite winger (twice his size!!) to cut him down with a ferocious tackle that was applauded by all
The fact some of these boys had never played before and that others hadn’t played in the positions given them (Connor Reed normally a loose head prop played inside centre !) shows how they are well rounded players who have real potential as a team.
Team: Kilden, Mason (Shaw), Oshiel, B Ajeigbe, Garwood (McKee), Surety, Griffiths, Wren, D Ajeigbe (Stayte), McKewan (Reed), Alboni, S Ajeigbe
Next Week see’s the lads on the road away to Finchley !!
