After last weekend’s fantastic performance Dagenham RUFC u11s travelled to Westcliff on Sunday to take part in the inaugural Westcliff RFC Festival and put in an absolute show of powerful running rugby.

Dagenham 40 – Medway RFC 0

The opening game saw the D’s absolutely demolish Medway in as one sided a game as your likely to see. The D’s scrum was dominant from start to finish and the line out was ruled by player of the tournament George Naylor. Naylor helped himself to a magnificent 4 tries as he smashed his way through every player on the pitch, rucked like a demon and scrimmaged with great power. Further scores where added by prop Connor Reed, centre Demi Ajeigbe and a pair by Daniel Wren as the game was pulled up early due to competition rules.

Dagenham 40 – Westcliff RFC B 0

The coaches had asked the boys for 100% every time today and that’s exactly what they got as the D’s ripped into the Hosts B Team with another display of power and precision rugby. Again George Naylor was at the heart of most of the power rugby rampaging around the pitch allowing scrum half Mitch Surety the time and space to release the deadly backline as Charlie Tilson scored a real cracker, Freddie Shaw scored a superb solo effort George Naylor scored another brace, Mitch Surety scored a great effort after breaking from the scrum with the scoring rounded off by Demi Ajeigbe, Michael Stayte and Daniel Wren.

The effort of the D’s on the day though was epitomised by Tommy Covington Young. At 40 points to nil up the diminutive winger made the tackle of the day as he chased a full 40m to haul down Westcliff’s winger with a brilliant piece of defence.

This win saw the D’s win the group with a 100% record without conceding a single point and meant a place in the Cup Final against the Host’s and beaten Essex Cup Finalists Westcliff.

Westcliff Festival Final

Dagenham RUFC 10 – Westcliff RFC 0

Westcliff where hot favourites after winning their group at a canter and having reached the Essex Festival Final only a few weeks ago where looking to seal the home win, but they didn’t reckon on the determination of the lads from Central Park

The first half dominated by Dagenham as their defensive effort was magnificent. Westcliff repeatedly ran the ball at the D’s only to be smashed back every time and when D’s got the ball the determination going forward was immense. The forwards to a man threw everything they had t the breakdown and continually turned over ball. One such turn over saw Mitch Surety move the ball to Fly Half Daniel Wren who ignored the overlap to crash over the Westcliff line for the opening score. 5-0 to the D’s at Half Time

No-one had breached the D’s line all day and the lads where determined to make sure this would be the case as they defended the Westcliff onslaught with great heart and effort and broke their resolve and following another fine bit of work from the forwards outside centre Charlie Tilson rounded off a fantastic effort as he ran in for a try to make the score 10-0.

From here on in D’s controlled the play and never looked like being pegged back again and as the final whistle blew the boys couldn’t hold in their joy and neither could the watching parents as the Dagenham boys Won the Westcliff RFC u11s Festival !!!!!!!!!!!

This result really shows the D’s are one of the top sides in Essex and things can only get better for the Mini Men from Central Park !!!

SQUAD: Reed, Shaw, Mason, Garwood, Naylor, Surety, Wren (Capt.), Ajeigbe, Covington-Young, Stayte, Tilson, Griffiths, McEwan, Warner, Kilden, Docemo.

3rd April 2010
DAGENHAM HURRICNES WIN THE CLACTON EASTER FESTIVAL !!!!
Away - Clacton Easter Festival

Dagenham RUFC u11s travelled to Clacton on Easter Saturday with 2 teams to play in the inaugural Clacton RFC Easter Festival and put on a show of determined and at times skilful running rugby.

Dagenham Hurricanes 10 – Brightlingsea RFC 0

The opening game saw the Hurricanes pitted against local club Brightlingsea and was a game that should have been over by half time. The D’s made chance after chance but squandered them with bad decision making, poor passing or some dogged defence by Brightlingsea.

Prop Connor Reed scored the opening try with Fly Half George Wren adding the second to give a comfortable, but by no means satisfying 10-0 win.

Dagenham Stormers 0 – Barkers Butts 20

Next up it was the turn of the Stormers. Dagenham Stormers are a development team with some of the lads only having played 1 or 2 matches so it was always going to be a difficult match against the competition favourites from Coventry but the boys put in a massive effort to tackle and scrummage for all their worth before going down by 4 tries to nil

Dagenham Hurricanes 30 – Dagenham Stormers 0

The odd set up of this competition then pitted our Hurricanes against our Stormers due to the withdrawal of Clacton to play in the u12s competition. So the boys of the D’s had a real bash at each other.

The Hurricanes dominated the Stormers in experience only though as the Stormers really tore into their team mates, but the experience really was a factor as George Wren ran in 2 tries, Daniel Wren ran in 2 tries and Demi Ajeigbe and Connor Reed scored one a piece which meant the game was stopped due to competition rules and saw the Hurricanes progress to the Cup Final as group winners

Barkers Butts should have now played either Clacton or Brightlingsea for a place in the final but as both sides declined to play the match Barkers progressed by default.

Clacton Easter Festival Final

Dagenham Hurricanes 10 – Barkers Butts RFC 5 (After Extra Time)

The final lived up to its billing as a real cracker of a match as both sides threw everything at each other in an effort to come away with the trophy.

The first half was all Barkers as they dominated the normally strong D’s scrum and ran the ball with some real flair and determination. D’s just couldn’t get their game together and with half time approaching Barkers pressure finally paid off as some lax defending at a maul allowed their big 2nd row to crash over for the score.

Some stern words at half time made it quite clear what was expected of the Dagenham boys and in fairness to each of the them they listened, took the criticism on board and came out a completely different team in the 2nd half.

The pressure was now all Dagenham as they battered Barkers line time and again before midway through the half a line out on Barkers 5m line was plucked mid air by the outstanding Connor Reed for the prop to smash over line to draw the scores level.

Barkers then came back for a final flurry and but for 2 pieces of excellent defending, one a massive tackle when faced by three opposition players by wing Charlie Tilson and the other a timely interception by skipper Daniel Wren, Barkers may have nicked it. But as the final whistle blew it was all down to extra time !!

D’s continued where they left off as the forwards started to get the upper hand in the scrum and a massive drive on the Barkers 5m line saw the D’s pack of 5 steal the ball. Scrum half Mitchel Surety moved the ball quickly to Fly Half George Wren who drew his defender before deftly passing to Daniel Wren, quick hands from the skipper to outside centre Demi Ajeigbe gave him the space to step back inside and crash over for the score that gave the D’s the lead at 10-5.

From here on in D’s controlled the play and never looked like being pegged back again and as the final whistle blew the boys couldn’t hold in their joy and neither could the watching parents as the Dagenham Hurricanes won the Clacton u11s Festival !!!!!!!!!!!

Dagenham RFC have been playing Youth Rugby since January 2010 and can already boast one of the most competitive sides in the County with our u11s who have already bought the silverware home to Central Park !!!

Hurricanes Team: Reed, Shaw, Mason, Garwood, Naylor, Surety, G Wren, D Wren (Capt.), Ajeigbe, Covington-Young, Stayte, Tilson, Griffiths.

3rd / 4th Play Off

Dagenham Stormers 5 – Brightlingsea 10

The Stormers ended the competition in 4th place after a narrow defeat to Brightlingsea, again the boys put in a massive effort and got their rewards with a superb try scored by Mitchell Fallon. The Stormers are getting better week on week and will be a force come the new season. Well played the Stormers !!

Stormers Team: Hachille, Kilden (Capt) Sidney, Bolo, Mckee, S Ajeigbe, McEwan, J Warner, C Warner, Glenn, Fallon, Alex

24th January 2010
Dagenham RUFC (A) 7 – Colchester RFC 10
Home - U11's

After all the training and hard effort of the boys game time finally came around against very stiff opposition in Colchester RFC and the game turned out to be a real cracker. From the off the Dagenham boys were really up for the game and some fine play by all the boys was capped by a perfectly executed line out move.

Connor Reed took the ball and left opposition players standing as he dived over to give the Home side the perfect start and a 5-0 lead. Captain Daniel Wren proved how deadly he is with the boot as he hit the conversion with Colchester players bearing down on him for a 7-0 lead.

Colchester are a very well organised side though and put some good phases of play together to score a well worked try as their forwards over powered the D’s with some great driving play. With the conversion missed D’s had a well deserved 7-5 lead.

The second half saw more of the same as Dagenham pressed and were repelled by excellent defence from Colchester and then Dagenham returned the favour with excellent tackles from Demi Ajeigbe, Michael Stayte and James Garwood, but the one mistake the boys made all match would come back to haunt them as a wayward pass from scrum half Mitch Surety wasn’t taken properly by Fly Half Connor Griffiths and a fumble saw Colchester nip in to score and take the lead at 10-7. With the conversion missed the game was up for grabs.

Dagenham had the chance to steal the game at the last after some first class chasing by fullback Wren who tackled two players before just missing the chance to score and from the resulting scrum Colchester cleared their lines to win an excellent match.

Team: Reed, D Wren (Capt.), Mason, Garwood, McKee, Surety, Griffiths, Shaw, Ajeigbe, Stayte, McKewan, G Wren

23rd January 2010
Dagenham RUFC (Development) 0 – Colchester RUFC 10
Home - U11's

The second match saw our development players along with some regulars play the same Colchester side.

The game, again, was a cracker as Dagenham’s new boys, some playing their first ever matches, put up a tremendous effort to hold Colchester to 0-0 at halftime. There was some excellent defending by Bailey McKewan, Regan Mason and Freddie Shaw. But the highlight was the scrum where Bolo Ajeigbe and Oshiel both playing their first games put in enormous effort to hold and then push back the Colchester pack.

The boys had the chance to score but never quite made it across the whitewash and two scores from Colchester settled the game. But the highlight of the game came when the diminutive Seyi Ajeigbe made the tackle of the match as he lined up his opposite winger (twice his size!!) to cut him down with a ferocious tackle that was applauded by all

The fact some of these boys had never played before and that others hadn’t played in the positions given them (Connor Reed normally a loose head prop played inside centre !) shows how they are well rounded players who have real potential as a team.

Team: Kilden, Mason (Shaw), Oshiel, B Ajeigbe, Garwood (McKee), Surety, Griffiths, Wren, D Ajeigbe (Stayte), McKewan (Reed), Alboni, S Ajeigbe

Next Week see’s the lads on the road away to Finchley !!
