NEW SEASON 2009-2010

The British Lions have returned, the summer such as we have had is almost over and that sense of anticipation is returning, how the weeks have flown by. Fitness assessments in April and then in June and the start of pre-season training see us now just a few short weeks from our first game. The easiest position to play the game is of course the one just the other side of the touch-line. Everything is obvious, lots of time to do it and of course you don’t get battered when it all goes wrong!

Pre-season training has been just the same, do x amount of press-ups, sprint x amount of yards. Hit that ruck and present the ball on rock hard ground and in bizarrely monsoon rain. Yes it's easy when you are the one shouting and blowing a whistle.

Without any doubt the most important part of any rugby club are the players. It should go without saying that players need to be fit and be able to perform their specific role within the team. There is however one other vital ingredient and I am glad to say that we appear to have it in abundance, commitment.

Commitment to your self, commitment to the team and I believe a commitment to taking the club forward. Our work together is far from over and be in no doubt we will face some tough battles ahead. Providing we maintain that commitment throughout the coming season particularly during those muddy winter nights when Emmerdale and Corrie become must watch television. I firmly believe that we can go forward together and eventually upwards.
